Thermometer calibration in Perth

Handheld digital thermometers and their probes checked against a reference thermometer at points across the range you actually use.

Digital thermometers are everywhere from food production to HVAC commissioning, and each one carries a probe that ages faster than the display. AmpTech calibrates handheld digital thermometers and probes in our Caversham lab against a reference thermometer traceable to national standards, at points across your working range.

Types of digital thermometers and probes we calibrate

  • Handheld digital thermometers with fixed or plug-in probes
  • Penetration and surface probe thermometers
  • Food-safety thermometers
  • Multi-channel thermometer readouts

What the calibration covers

  • Reading against a reference thermometer at points between −25 °C and +140 °C, with the probe you use
  • Each interchangeable probe checked individually where you send more than one
  • Readout accuracy on instruments that accept external probes
  • Response and stability at each test point

Typical interval

12 months

How often should a digital thermometer be calibrated?

Twelve months is standard. Thermometers used in food safety or in regulated storage checks are frequently placed on 6 months, and probes that see hot processes or cleaning chemicals age faster still.

Why digital thermometers and probes drift

The probe is the weak point: repeated heating and cooling, moisture ingress at the cable and physical damage all change its output. The electronics drift more slowly. A thermometer that reads correctly at room temperature can be several degrees out at the top of its range, which is why calibration uses points across the range rather than a single check.

What your certificate records

  • As-found and as-left readings at each temperature point, per probe
  • Reference thermometer and equipment used, with traceability
  • Environmental conditions at the time of calibration

References we work to

  • Manufacturer's published accuracy specification for the instrument and probe
  • ISO 9001 clause 7.1.5 — monitoring and measuring resources
  • Your food-safety or process procedures, where they set a tighter tolerance

Calibrated in our Caversham lab

Digital thermometer calibration is bench work, so it happens in our lab rather than at your premises. Drop instruments in, bookpickup & drop-off across Perth, or freight them from regional WA. Every certificate is issued under our ISO 9001 certified quality management system and is traceable to national standards.

FAQ

Thermometer calibration FAQs

Do you calibrate the probe with the thermometer?
Yes, and that is the point — send the probes you actually use, and each one is checked with the readout so the certificate reflects the combination you measure with.
Which temperature points do you use?
Points you specify between −25 °C and +140 °C, typically covering the low, middle and high ends of the range you actually work over. Tell us the temperatures that matter to your process and we will include them. Above 140 °C is outside our range and we will say so rather than certify part of the scale.
Can you calibrate food-safety thermometers?
Yes. Food thermometers are calibrated at the points relevant to cooking, holding and cold storage, and the certificate suits food-safety program records.
